Our Yellow Ribbon meeting will be held on 4/11/05 at
Seminole Library 9200 113th St N at 7pm. The library is using the room
so we will be either meeting outside or at the Starbucks. This will be a
meeting were we are teaching the training.
Great News we now have our own website.
www.suncoastyr.org It is a work in progress please check it out and let
me know what you think. I am very excited. We also have new flyers. I am
excited about that too. Please let me know if you want some. If your
friend or family member is not on our web site and you would like them
to be send their picture to the web master and he will get it on the web
site for you.
The Senate and House have approved all the
appropriated money ask for in the Garret Lee Smith Memorial Act. Now we
will see who will get some of that money
Carol Yaros and I recently returned from Suicide
Prevention Day at the Capital on 3/30/05. I was interview by NBC that
was on the 5:30 news that day. Carol was interviewed by PBS and that ran
on Wednesday. We are pushing a bill to have a full time position for
state wide suicide prevention coordinator. Please visit

The state gave 3 checks away at the
press conference for $60,000 each:
-
to the police suicide prevention
group. If you didn't know for every 2 officers who die in the line
of duty 12 die by suicide;
-
to elder affairs 12% of the senior
population die by suicide; and
-
to teens in the big bend area were
there was several suicides this year (not as many as our county have
die by suicide each year) at least they are giving money a first.
AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) is selling purple
bands for suicide prevention. Anyone interested? Let me know.

Many local parents of suicide here in the Bay area are heading up for
our Spring Retreat. Parents, friends, and family from all over the world
get together. It is next week end and there is still time to sign up.
